Doctors Leave Forceps in Woman During Botched Surgery
A woman in Spain has successfully sued and won damages from a hospital where doctors left forceps inside her abdomen during a botched surgical procedure at a clinic in Madrid.
According to the Central European News (CEN) agency (via FOX News.com), the forceps instrument was discovered on an X-ray conducted on the 44-year-old woman a few days after her surgery at the San Camilo private clinic.
A second operation was performed to remove the forceps and the woman later sued the hospital for damages, citing extensive medical expenses and mental distress arising from the medical mistake, according to CEN.
The woman apparently didn’t suffer any additional injuries due to the botched operation.
The news agency report noted that similar hospital mistakes have been on the rise in recent years in Spain, which has experienced a shortage of doctors and nurses across the country.
