Couple Sought for Leashing Cat to Hood While Driving
Police in New Philadelphia, Ohio are searching for a couple accused of leashing their cat to the hood of their car while driving on their way to Cleveland.
The car was photographed by another driver on Broadway near Front Street in Tuscarawas County.
“I looked over and glanced to my left and thought ‘Is that a cat on the hood?'” an onlooker told WKYC’s Chris Tye.
Surveillance footage from a Shell gas station in New Philadelphia shows the couple taking the cat for a walk before heading inside the gas station. When they left, the cat was placed with a leash onto the hood of the vehicle.
“I wish someone got a picture of the license plate,” said Police Chief Michael Goodwin. “We could follow up very quickly. It’s a very bizarre case, unclear if it would violate any animal cruelty laws. It’s the public safety of main concern to me. I’ve never seen anything like it in 25 years on the job.”
WKYC reporter Mike O’Mara contacted Captain Paul Rossi of the New Philadelphia Police Department and showed him the video. “Oh my, just when you think you’ve seen it all. Wow!” Rossi said.
